SUMMARY:Talk by Brian Freeland - Bohemian Paris - Artists\, Painters ..stories beyond the books ...
DESCRIPTION:At the Church Hall. \nAn earlier talk\, LITERARY PARIS\, reminded viewers of the city’s writers; this new Presentation\, BOHEMIAN PARIS\, covers those painters\, performers and composers active at a time when\, according to Henry Murger\, “Bohemia only exists and is only possible in Paris”. \nThe Irish author George Moore (above\, sketched by Manet)  introduces us to the ‘bohemian’ Impressionist painters; we then glimpse the ’historical’  Bohemians before moving on\, inevitably perhaps\, to Puccini’s opera La Boheme based on Henry Murger’s book ‘Scenes de la Vie Boheme’. \nSo please come along. You know Brian the Actor\, Raconteur and researcher. It will be fun. \nFor the people who come to the hall. £2 entrance and £1 wine / voucher prize draw at entrance. I will try to record the talk for Bone Fide members but you I admit that we do have trouble with the sound etc. Best to come along \nRefreshments and cake will be available. \nBill Dodd \n07786914795

SUMMARY:Alistair Byford-Bates - The recovery of a Fairey Barracuda from the Solent from the former RNAS Daedalus
DESCRIPTION:At the Church Hall and also on Zoom.. \nWell you asked for this so.. enjoy  🙂 Alistair has returned for us from Wessex Archaeology via Zoom\, but in the Church Hall.. This talk has had international acclaim in Finland. \n“The recovery of a Fairey Barracuda from the Solent off the former RNAS Daedalus“. \nDuring survey work carried out in preparation for the IFA2 interconnector project\, the extant remains of a Fairey Barracuda were discovered. The first all-aluminium high winged monoplane used by the Royal Navy’s Fleet Air Arm; no surviving examples exist. The ongoing research into the recovered remains of the aircraft and historic archives has identified several inconsistencies\, leading to questions about the identity of the aircraft\, the records around its loss\, and wartime production contingencies across different aircraft manufacturers. \nWe understand the worry that the upsurgence of COVID and Omicron variant is real and should be treated with respect\, so for those that want to isolate or reduce the risk we will be transmitting the meeting via Zoom as well. Please be patient and we will get better each meeting. I will be recording it and will post it later on the website for those who ask to view it.  In the Hall please use the sanitisers and usual social distancing. \nIf you want to join by Zoom and you are new to Zoom please download Zoom from https://zoom.us/download and register yourself using your email address. \nJoin Zoom Meeting Link \nlink to Zoom for the meeting \nMeeting ID: 813 9635 5113 or URL = https://us02web.zoom.us/j/81396355113 \nFor Networking and Fellowship. \nFor the people who come to the hall. £2 entrance and £1 wine / voucher prize draw at entrance. SUMMARY:A Brian Freeland Presentation - George Bernard Shaw - Playing the Clown
DESCRIPTION:Today we have snaffled Brian with his award winning talk on George Bernard Shaw. \nSee Further details in Brians Web Page further details and references \n\n\n\nSeeing a production of Shaw’s play Man and Superman at the Bristol Old Vic during the early weeks of his National Service encouraged Brian to consider the theatre as a potential career: three weeks after demobilisation he started work at the London Palladium. Large chunks of the next twenty years were spent touring abroad\, usually for the British Council\,\noften with plays by or about G B Shaw. \nWanting a more substantial Talk that might suit Arts and Literary Festivals\, Arts Centres and Theatres\, Brian conceived this presentation. He is both narrator and player\, adding memories of his overseas tours to his light-hearted chronicles of the life\, the works\, the correspondence and the complicated personal relationships of the “best playwright since Shakespeare”. \nShaw called the clown “the best part of the circus” and wrote “all my life I have been merely playing the clown”. Mrs Patrick Campbell always started her letters to him “Dear Joey”\, a reference to that other great clown Joseph Grimaldi.\nPLAYINGTHE CLOWN tells Shaw’s story with respect\, with admiration\, and – as Shaw himself always told it – with humour. \n\n\n\nThis is an acting presentation… over British 40 venue recommendations. Soon to be going abroad … \nWe understand the worry that the upsurgence of COVID and Omicron variant is real and should be treated with respect\, so for those that want to isolate or reduce the risk we will be transmitting the meeting via Zoom as well. Please be patient and we will get better each meeting. I will be recording it and will post it later on the website for those bono fide members who ask to view it.  I apologise in advance that the online sound in the video and zoom is not brilliant. SUMMARY:Billy Slatter - "What are you doing here? "
DESCRIPTION:At the Church Hall and also on Zoom.. \nBilly will be illustrating with powerpoint pictures\, showing some of the places he visited as part of his chaplaincy studies. Deliberately avoiding the well-known places like hospitals and prisons\, He will focus on the places you might not expect to see a chaplain; football clubs\, racecourses\, exhibition centres\, shopping malls\, airports\, docks and others. \nHe will attempt to answer the questions about what the church thinks it is doing and what the business and sporting world get out of chaplaincy. Anecdotes from my own experience help to earth the presentation for people \nThis will be an interesting and thought provoking view on the spiritual and personal side of chaplaincy. \nIts worth remembering the 1970 play ‘Zigger Zagger’ by Peter Terson where there was a speech by ‘I am the football fan vicar..’ – it shows the basis of chaplaincy in football clubs’… \nYou can come or watch and ask questions by zoom. Let me know if you need any help. The talk will be available for bone fide members after the meeting. Let me know if you want to see it on video afterwards. \nWe understand the realities of COVID and the variants is still present and it should be treated with respect\, so for those that want to isolate or reduce the risk we will be transmitting the meeting via Zoom as well. SUMMARY:Brian Freeland - 50 Years of Seaside Entertainment - Wednesday November 3rd 7:30pm
DESCRIPTION:Brian returns with his Performance Talk – Clarkson Rose introduces ’50 Years of Seaside Entertainment’ \n\nWas any holiday complete without a visit to the summer show or concert party? The very names conjure up the period –\nSandy Powell’s Startime; Cyril Fletcher’s Summer Masquerade; Hedley Claxton’s Gaytime; The Fol-de-Rols.\nAnd Clarkson Rose’s Twinkle.\nClarkie and his partner Olive Fox presented their first Twinkle on Ryde Pier in 1921.\nOver the following 47 years Twinkle had resident summer seasons\, with tours in the spring and autumn.\nIn the winter months Clarkie was one of our busiest and best-loved pantomime dames.\nTHE STORY OF TWINKLE IS VERY MUCH THE STORY OF BRITISH SEASIDE ENTERTAINMENT DURING THAT PERIOD \n\n\n50 YEARS OF SEASIDE ENTERTAINMENT is a ‘solo performance’ with costumes and props\, some songs and a dance. \n\nClarkson Rose joined his first Pierrot show in Sussex in 1914\, and staged his last TWINKLE season in Devon in 1967 –\nan experience which makes him the perfect guide for a presentation about Seaside Entertainment. \n\n  \nEvery one welcome .. \nThis is in the Church Hall \nRefreshments and Cakes will be available. Make an evening of it. 🙂 \nNetworking and Fellowship. \nAny questions let me know. All are welcome\, look forward to seeing you. \n  \nBill Dodd \n07786914795 \n
