Andrew Gaunt – DEFRA “The Role of the Plant Quarantine Service: Dealing with Alien Pests and Diseases”

£3Andrew is a member of APHA ( Animal and Plant Health Agency ) in DEFRA. He will be giving us the details of his Day Job and how it affects us all.
After studying Agriculture and graduating from Aberystwyth University, He joined the Velcourt Farm Management Group, who now farms over 80,000 hectares across several countries. From there joined ADAS, the Ministry of Agriculture’s Farm Advisory Service at Taunton. When this was sold off, He then joined the Plant Health and Seeds Inspectorate which is now part of the Animal and Plant Health Agency and now have been an inspector for over 25 years in West Sussex based at Chichester.
The talk looks at the role and work of Defra’s Plant Quarantine service in protecting the Food Supply Chain, Agriculture, Horticulture, forestry and the Environment from Alien Pests and Diseases.
