The Way Forward + Brains Trust

February 7, 2018 @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm

£2

Click on event to see more…A discussion on “The Way Forward”. The informal agenda will consider points that were made by those who were able to attend the January meeting. Such aspects as the name and structure of the group, the style and timing of meetings, the subject matter of possible talks and the choice or nomination of a speaker (even from our ‘in-house’ resources!) will need to be decided.

If there is time we will be holding a small ‘Brains Trust’ on local matters; and any other that people are interested in.

£1 entry + £1 Wine Raffle

Cake and Coffee as usual.

Minutes of Men’s Fellowship Meeting for January

Last meeting at the Lamb

We met last time at the Lamb to discuss the Men’s Fellowship.  There were a few apologies for absence, possibly as it was just after Christmas. However, for those who arrived there was a lot of spirited interest and ideas were generated about what we would be interested in discussing and hearing about. I know it’s the cake and the coffee….What you put in then it’s what you will get out’.  I have listed the points we discussed and general people’s views. There were 5 of us, we wanted to involved more people in the discussion, hence in February….

To do this the February meeting will consist of: –

7:30 -> 8:00 pm chat / networking with coffee and cake.

8.00 -> 8:45 pm Discussion about the creation of a support group ( not committee ) and the following points of interest

8:45-> 9:30 pm Brains Trust in the round. One person speaks at a time. General local issues and anything that is relevant. If any of the following points looks like it needs further discussion then it will be discussed here.

Structure of meeting

Some felt that the present method of having a short networking time ½ hour and then 1-1/2 hour talk and finish with questions at 9:30 at little too long. Concern was raised about the amount of noise during a speaker’s talk.

Committee v Support group.

Sorry but  we have to have someone who can be contacted and that person will need support. If we are using the support group method, with no official positions, accounts and money have to be lodged with the Office on a meeting basis. I guess a cash pot can be kept.  People help where necessary.  This must be discussed. We have to have volunteers.

Christian prayers for start and finish.

Is there a sufficient Christian focus, do we try to outreach to other men’s fellowships etc.

Talk interests and persons who can do them.

Everybody must try to suggest a person or event and then if they know them and the group want to go ahead, then ask that person if they would be interested in giving a short chat. It must not be left to one person to do this. We can’t afford to pay for big names; but it’s our experience that it’s the passion of the speaker rather than the status that counts. I think we want people to allow us to discuss and be involved. It’s important to emphasise that that it is a friendly society and speakers will be given as much support as they need.

April meeting cannot be in Hall

The Hall is going to be redecorated in April so whatever we do must be relocated elsewhere.

March’s Meeting

Michael will be talking about his involvement in the emergency Romanian Orphanage supply convoy.

This will be on March 7th 7:30pm in the Church Hall.

Cake rota and coffee rota

We need to have a rota of interested Cake suppliers catering for say 15 people. Please let me/us know who can be help. If monetary help is needed then that is fine.

Paul’s wife Carol will provide cakes for February 7th and Alison, my wife, will do it on the 7th March. It doesn’t just have to be the wives !!

The coffee and Tea rota is currently being sorted by Keith, who is doing an excellent job. However he needs help on occasions. This must be discussed.

Wordsmith and marketer required.

Help for advance info for SeeSight and Pew sheet… Please

Entrance fee + Wine Raffle

At the moment we have a £1 entrance fee with a £1 wine raffle. This really should go up to £2 especially if we want to attract some speakers.

Don’t be afraid to complain.
